Cruise Description |
9 Night Cruise sailing from Invergordon roundtrip aboard Hebridean Princess.
World Heritage interest cruise.
The northernmost outposts of the British Isles, Orkney and Shetland abound with stunning scenery, seabird colonies and mysterious prehistoric sites. These unique and remote islands, where Scotland meets Scandinavia, are truly remarkable and are home to a wealth of hidden treasures waiting to be discovered.
Relax at sea as we sail to Orkney to admire the impressive interior of the 12th century St Magnus Cathedral, known as the 'Light of the North'. Born from a time of conflict but now serving as vital links between island communities, the Churchill Barriers were built by the same Italian prisoners of war as the Italian Chapel.
A panoramic tour of peaceful Sanday highlights its contrasts on passage to Fair Isle. A stopping off point for migrant birds, more species of bird have been recorded on Fair Isle than on any other piece of land of the same size in the British Isles.
Explore the ancient capital of Scalloway with its rich and colourful history, and gain an insight into the past at the Shetland Museum which tells the story of Pictish, Viking and Scottish settlers. Onwards to the northerly outpost of Unst, home to the Boat Haven where we discover the island's maritime heritage.
On our journey south we visit the stunning lighthouse at Noup Head, perched on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic, before heading to the Heart of Neolithic Orkney. These fascinating ancient sites provide incredible insights into lives of the prehistoric people who lived here 5,000 years ago. If His Majesty is not in residence, delight in a special tour of the late Queen Mother's home at the Castle of Mey. |
