World Heritage Interest Cruise

This voyage from Inverness offers a unique view of the untamed, rugged beauty of the dramatic coasts of Caithness, crossing the Pentland Firth to discover the delights of Orkney. Enjoy summer days filled with wonderful historical gems and be inspired by the sights and sounds of Scotland’s far north.

Steaming the Moray Firth, we pause to explore the hidden gem of Gordon Castle Estate. Situated between the River Spey and the Moray Coast, the eight-acre walled garden is one of Scotland’s best kept secrets. From Wick, we discover a majestic jewel, the Castle of Mey, the late Queen Mother’s home in Scotland, provided HM King Charles is not in residence.

Orkney beckons and we plot a course for Kirkwall. Visit the Churchill Barriers, built by Italian prisoners of war, and the delightful Italian Chapel, their enduring memorial. St Magnus Cathedral is an oasis of peace in Orkney’s vibrant capital, whilst the Bishop’s and Earl’s Palaces are regarded as two of the finest examples of architecture in Scotland and highlight Orkney’s strong Norse and ecclesiastical links.

On Hoy, the Scapa Flow Museum tells the story of Orkney’s military involvement during both world wars and houses a major collection of wartime artefacts, whilst Skara Brae is the best-preserved Neolithic settlement in western Europe and gives a remarkable picture of life 5,000 years ago. Covering thousands of years of history, Skaill House is renowned for its contribution to Orkney’s diverse and exciting past. Finally, explore the ancient capital of Birsay and the ruins of the once mighty Earl’s Palace before steaming the Pentland Firth bound for Wick.
